SUTTON TILGHMAN TEAM TO HOLD POST-ELECTION PRESS CONFERENCE
Upon the completion of the election of officers and sergeants-at- arms of AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) District Council 33 (DC33), incumbent DC33 President James Sutton will be available for comment and reaction.
Sutton, and his team, will be available in the press area of the council's headquarters at 9:45 p.m. today. The headquarters is located at 3001 Walnut St., Philadelphia. Press space will be available on the sixth floor of the building.
Due to security requirements, no one other than certified, credentialed voting delegates, candidates and their official observers will be allowed admittance to the building until after the close of the election.
The election is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today. Election results are expected at 10-10:30 p.m.
The following was issued today by The Sutton Tilghman Team
Matthews and Mauldin: The SCAB Presidents?
Two of the candidates seeking the office of President of AFSCME District Council 33 have SCAB histories. Now, in a contract year, they want you to support them because they pledge to love the union and hold solidarity dear to their heart. Don't believe it. And, don't believe them.
As they both claim in their campaigns that actions speak louder than words, let's look at their actions.
Pete Matthews crossed the union's picket line in the 1978 strike. He worked at least the first three days of the '78 strike at the 29th & Clearfield Street station. Pete Matthews is a SCAB.
SCAB Matthews would have worked longer, sleeping with the City on his City provided SCAB cot if he hadn't been physically confronted and run off by true union members. Matthews has never denied it. Indeed, he seems almost proud of it.
They say you can tell a lot about where a person is going if you look from where they have come. Take a hard look at SCAB Matthews. And, let's look at SCABster Mauldin too.
Mauldin wants to help his SCAB friends. He wants your dues to go to his SCAB friends.
In 1988, Mauldin wanted to get a District Council job for one of his SCAB friends. He brought her resume in. He asked for a job for her. He fought for her.
All the while Mauldin knew that she had crossed the union's own 1986 picket line at the Round House (The Police Administration Building at 8th & Race Streets).
What kind of friend of labor is that Reds?
And, SCABster Mauldin demanded that the Local union pay him during the 1986 strike. He did make it to the picket line but he was paid for it. Were you?
Now SCAB Matthews wants us to give up the right to even threaten a strike. In a radio interview on WHAT, SCAB Matthews said, if he were the Council President, there would be no concessions and no strike. SCAB Matthews has never understood what strikes are about or what they are for -- they are to ensure that the employer and management can't dictate to workers.
It is time to draw the line. SCAB is a four letter word. Don't vote for SCABs.
Elect the Sutton Tilghman Team -- ain't no scabs there.
