SUSAN G. KOMEN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION AND AMERICAN AIRLINES INVITES PATSY CHOCO TO UPCOMING RACE FOR THE CURE (TM) MARATHON

DALLAS, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- LA Marathon participant Patsy Choco is fighting breast cancer, but it isn't stopping her from walking 26 miles to help increase awareness about this dreaded disease.
To support her efforts, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and American Airlines invited Patsy to walk again in the upcoming Washington, D.C. Race for the Cure (TM) on June 19, 1993.
Actress Mary Ann Mobley, a Komen Foundation advisory board member, presented this invitation as well as two free tickets on American Airlines to Patsy this morning at the elite runners news conference in Los Angeles.
"The Komen Foundation salutes Patsy and her courageous efforts to help save the lives of other women," said Mobley.
"I've been a runner for more than 10 years," said Choco in a letter to Marathon organizers requesting special permission to finish the race in a wheel chair if necessary.
"My dream has been to complete the LA Marathon. My time is running out as my diagnosis is terminal. My husband, if allowed, would have the wheel chair ready if I need it."
The Komen Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. The mission of the foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. The 34 Race for the Cure (TM) events planned for 1983 are expected to attract more then 125,000 runners.
American Airlines has been a national corporate sponsor of the Komen Foundation for 10 years, supporting Race for the Cure (TM) events and promoting breast health awareness to its own employees throughout the world.
