SURVEY LOOKS AT THAT FIRST KISS
SURVEY LOOKS AT THAT FIRST KISS OAK BROOK, Ill., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- How old were you when you
received your first romantic kiss? If you're like most Americans when it comes to kissing, you probably started young, according to the results of a just-released Gallup Survey commissioned by the lip care experts at Blistex, Inc.
Forty-one percent of the respondents (male and female) in the Blistex Kissing Survey were in their early teens, ages 13 through 15, when they experienced their first romantic kiss. About 14 percent were early starters, having had their first heart-throbbing pucker when they were age 12 or younger; on the opposite end, only 3 percent said they had reached the ripe old age of 21 before experiencing their first smooch. Home Is Where The Heart -- And First Kiss -- Is In looking back on where that first romantic kiss took place, most respondents, as teens, must have felt there really was no place like home -- the first-kiss site named most often in the survey. Home was followed by other popular kissing sites including the car, school, a dance and the movies (theater and drive-in). No Peeking Kisses When it comes to current kissing, few do it with their eyes open -- literally. More than half of the respondents in the Blistex Kissing Survey say their eyes remain firmly closed when puckering up. Slightly more than 20 percent say they peek occasionally, and only 8 percent of the respondents (mostly men) say they keep their eyes wide open for a good look at whom they are smooching. Silver Screen Kisses Finally, when asked about legendary kisses of the silver screen, more than a quarter of those surveyed named "Gone With The Wind" as having the most memorable kiss in movie history. "From Here To Eternity" ranked second in memorable on-screen kisses, thanks to the steamy surf kiss between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr. A kiss is still a kiss -- and a memorable one -- when it comes to Bergman and Bogart in "Casablanca," which came in third in the survey, followed by "Ghost," "Top Gun," "Love Story," and "9 1/2 Weeks." "As a company focused on maintaining smooth, healthy lips, we suggest you keep your lips in good puckering condition this Valentine's Day," said Mike Donnantuono, manager of marketing for Blistex Inc., the leading manufacturer of medicated lip care products. -0- 2/12/92 /NOTE TO EDITORS: The results of the Gallup Omnibus Survey, sponsored by Blistex, Inc., are based on telephone interviews with a national sample of 1,012 adults, conducted from Nov. 11-17, 1991.
