SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIES SELLS INSULATION PRODUCTS DIVISION

 SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Surgical Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: SGTI) announced today the sale of the Insulation Products Distribution segment of its subsidiary, Insulation Distributors, Inc. At the selling price of $1,372,000 in cash and $353,000 in assumed liabilities, this will result in a one-time after-tax gain for the company of approximately $135,000 or $.04 per share.
 Rex Crosland, chairman and president of SGTI, stated that "We acquired Insulation Distributors in May of 1990 for $1,050,000. Our selling price of $1,725,000 has provided the company with an excellent return on its investment. This completes our exit from the insulation products segment, and allows us to concentrate our managerial and financial resources on the expansion of our medical products business both internally and through acquisitions.
 Surgical Technologies manufactures and markets customized sterile surgical packs and devices for cardiac catheterization labs in hospitals, surgical centers and other healthcare facilities in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Pacific Rim. The company is committed to providing innovative products and services that will help improve interventional cardiology care to healthcare professionals quickly, efficiently and at a reasonable price.
