SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIES PLANS NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Todd Crosland, vice president of Finance for Surgical Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: SGTI) today announced preparations for a 1993 market launch of the PCTA (Percutanous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty) Infrared Balloon Inflation Syringe.
This patented device, employed in interventional catheterization procedures, has far-reaching potential for application in the medical industry and is an integral part of Surgical Technologies' new Angioplasty Balloon Inflation System.
"Initial response from clinical evaluations of the technology has been superb," Crosland said. "We anticipate excellent market penetration during our first year of introduction."
Surgical Technologies recently initiated a long-term strategy to develop products and marketing channels that will maximize gross margins. Its direct distribution network has expanded to 50 sales reps in the United States and reports early success in securing new bids for custom surgical packs and other proprietary products.
The company's OEM division is also attracting significant new business from U.S. and international markets. Crosland estimates overall market potential for the Surgical Technologies product line at approximately $400 million annually.
Crosland said, "Surgical Technologies is currently in excellent financial condition. With no significant long-term debt and shareholders equity of $9,500,000 or $2.80 per share, we feel that our shareholders stand to benefit from the rapidly accelerating growth we anticipate over the coming year."
Surgical Technologies manufactures and markets customized sterile surgical packs and devices for cardiac catheterization labs in hospitals, surgical centers and other healthcare facilities in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Pacific Rim. The company is committed to providing innovative products and services that will help improve interventional cardiology care to healthcare professionals quickly, efficiently and at a reasonable price.
