SURGERY CENTER ASSOCIATION ELECTS WILLIAMS TO BOARD
ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert C. Williams, vice

president of Premier Ambulatory Systems, Inc. (Pasadena, Calif.) was elected to the board of directors of the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association (FASA) on May 3 during the association's 18th Annual Meeting in Boston.
FASA is a national membership association representing over 400 ambulatory surgery centers in the United States. These surgery centers are primarily freestanding medical facilities where scheduled procedures such as cataract, hernias, gynecological and orthopedic surgeries are performed. Currently almost 25 percent of all outpatient surgery in the United States is performed at ambulatory surgery centers. The vast majority of these facilities are Medicare certified.
Williams, having been in surgery center management for 20 years, is chief operating officer of Premier Ambulatory Systems, Inc., an organization that owns and manages surgery centers and other ambulatory care services.
With the increase in the number of surgery centers in the United States and the emergence of their share of the outpatient surgeries performed in this country, FASA's membership has quadrupled in the last seven years. In addition to an annual convention, the association conducts nurses seminars and legislative workshops as well as publishing numerous surveys and publications about the industry.
