SURFCONTROL UNVEILS RISK FILTER E-MAIL FILTERING APPLIANCE.
"The launch of SurfControl RiskFilter means we now can offer IT directors the strongest protection against e-mail-borne security threats on the market, regardless of the delivery platform," said Steve Purdham, chief executive officer at SurfControl. "RiskFilter uses advanced filtering techniques such as spam fingerprints, heuristics and lexical analysis to ensure accuracy in eliminating e-mail threats."
New Technologies Enhance Security
SurfControl RiskFilter features 15 layers of e-mail security protection to stop spam, viruses, worms and other e-mail threats. SurfControl RiskFilter uses more dictionaries and more languages than any other appliance on the market. It is built on a hardened Linux operating system that reduces component parts and vulnerabilities, and ensures optimal speed and security. SurfControl RiskFilter provides special protection against denial of service and directory harvest attacks. Since it acts as its own Mail Transport Agent (MTA), it can manage limits on messages per minute, connections per minute, same messages per minute and invalid recipients from the same IP.
Protection at the Perimeter Keeps Security Risks Off the Network
SurfControl RiskFilter is deployed at the network perimeter to give businesses an efficient way to prevent e-mail security threats from entering the network.
"Not all appliances are created equal. An appliance is only as good as the software that runs it," Purdham said. "SurfControl has years of focused experience in content filtering software, a global content team that is unmatched in the industry and filtering technology that allows customers to tailor solutions to their environment."
The rapidly expanding range of e-mail security threats is driving demand for e-mail appliances. These threats force companies to look beyond single- point anti-virus and firewall protections for better defenses at the network gateway. IT managers also are under pressure to find security solutions that do not disrupt the flow of critical business e-mail. An appliance helps IT managers protect the network with minimal human intervention and time.
SurfControl RiskFilter is configured and administered via a secure Web interface. It features end-user spam management capabilities, end-user black lists and white lists and the ability to archive e-mails. The flexible filtering rules and comprehensive reports help ensure easy administration.
Spam More Than Just A Nuisance
Spam is increasingly being used to perpetrate other crimes, like identity theft and credit card fraud. E-mail-borne viruses not only disable PCs and limit network resources, they can also highjack desktop computers and use them to relay messages that hide a spammer's true identity.
"If spammers are the organized crime of the Internet, then we need to be just as organized to defeat them," Purdham said. "SurfControl Risk Filter doesn't just scan email, it interrogates it. Enterprises need this kind of appliance at the network perimeter to help guard against the full-scale attacks that face organizations every single day."
Used in tandem with SurfControl's content filtering software, SurfControl RiskFilter stops spam and helps businesses manage internal e-mail use to prevent inappropriate content in the workplace and confidential data leaks.
Industry experts say the security appliance market is poised to reach $4.7 billion by 2007. Within this market, appliances for secure content management will grow from $397 million in 2003 to almost $1.6 billion by 2007, according to the analyst firm IDC.
