SUPER JAZZ VII OFFERS WHOLE DAY OF MUSIC FOR ALL.

Byline: Daily News

VALENCIA - The Valencia High School Concert Jazz Band will host Super Jazz VII today with the sounds of jazz beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 6:30 p.m.

Three performance stages will spotlight the musical talents of more than 40 junior and senior high school jazz bands and combos providing various styles of jazz to entertain audiences throughout the day.

In addition to Valencia High, local jazz bands participating in Super Jazz VII include Hart High, Canyon High, La Mesa Junior High and Sierra Vista Junior High. A special performance by the faculty of the Los Angeles Music Academy in Pasadena under the direction of bass player Ed Lucie will begin on the main theater stage at 2 p.m.

``Kids love to perform in the Super Jazz Fest. Bands from as far away as Santa Barbara return every year for an exciting day playing great music,'' said Robert Babko, Valencia's band director. ``Super Jazz is a great way for community members to come out to support local students while enjoying the big band sounds reminiscent of the jazz tradition as started by Count Basie.''

Super Jazz VII is the major fund-raiser of the year supporting Valencia's Concert Band.

Admission is $5 and includes entrance to all venues throughout the day. An outdoor food cafe also will be available. Awards will be announced at the end of the day.

Valencia High is at 27801 Dickason Drive. For information, call Babko at (661) 294-1188, Ext. 524.
