SUPER FRESH TO ACCEPT MAC CARDS FOR PAYMENT IN 71 STORES THROUGHOUT PENNSYLVANIA, NEW JERSEY AND DELAWARE

WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Money Access Service (MAC) announced today that Super Fresh Food Markets is now accepting the MAC card for purchases in its 71 stores throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
A prime motivator in its decision to accept MAC cards at the point of sale was a study conducted by the Supermarket Institute, according to Super Fresh Vice President of Marketing Casper Genco. "The study showed that ATM card payment offers a number of benefits, including higher average register receipts; lower transaction costs than checks; elimination of the `float' time for payment; and up to a 30 percent reduction in transaction time compared to checks," said Genco.
"However, the most important consideration is meeting our customers' needs and expectations. Customers are getting used to the convenience of payment with the MAC card, due to the increase in the number of retailers who offer this option. Increasingly, they both want and expect this service to be offered -- and we are committed to providing it," Genco added.
"Super Fresh's perspective supports the MAC network's longstanding belief that the consumer will drive the increase in the number of retailer establishments that accept the MAC card for payment," said Michael L. Douglas, president of the MAC network. "Much like ATM machines have become an integral part of a financial institution's consumer service package, so too will retailers find that accepting MAC cards will become vital to maintaining competitive positioning."
Super Fresh is supporting the introduction of MAC card payment with in-store, circular and radio advertising.
Super Fresh offers several technological innovations for the convenience of its customers. In addition to MAC cards, customers have access to services such as personalized "Checkout Coupons" that are generated at the checkout and based on items purchased, and an electronic "Clipless Coupon" system available to members of the Super Fresh Bonus Savings Club.
The MAC system currently has 1,450 participating financial institutions and 28 million cardholders in 16 states, primarily in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. It is the top electronic funds transfer network in total switch transactions and a leading provider of point-of-sale services. MAC is a registered trademark of Money Access Service, a subsidiary of Electronic Payment Services, Inc.
