 IN DISASTER RECOVERY, AT PALM SPRINGS CONFERENCE
 WAYNE, Pa., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- SunGard Recovery Services Inc. today announced it will introduce a unique approach for business to keep working in the face of natural or man-made disasters.
 Known in the industry as a world leader in providing the technical expertise to recover large, sophisticated data centers (mainframe computers, telecommunications equipment), SunGard is now moving to protect other essential functions of 20th century business.
 "We can no longer neglect those elements of our businesses outside the data center," said Kenneth R. Adams, president and chief executive officer of SunGard. "As business in the United States moves into other areas, identifying and protecting all critical business functions becomes increasingly complex."
 The new approach is scheduled to debut at the annual SunGard Disaster Recovery Conference, held at the Marriott Desert Springs Hotel, Palm Desert, Calif., on Sept. 21 and 22.
 Adams explained, "In light of the recent tragedies in southern Florida and Hawaii -- and our track record in dealing with the great Chicago flood in April -- and the expected massive earthquake in Southern California, we believe we need to be on the cutting edge of technology in our field."
 SunGard is best known for providing companies with computer center recovery services. Further, SunGard -- particularly in the most recent case of the Chicago flood -- works with its subscribers to put their business back in business within hours of when a disaster strikes.
 The new approach being introduced at the Disaster Recovery Conference, according to Adams, is known as Comprehensive Business Recovery (CBR). It includes an industry first -- a centralized voice recovery system.
 SunGard's centralized voice recovery system is designed to help companies that have voice-intensive operations -- such as customer service, order processing, and telemarketing. SunGard's centralized voice recovery system allows companies, within minutes after a disaster hits, the ability to re-establish essential contact with customers.
 Using cutting edge technology, SunGard can re-direct telecommunications to any site where the employees of the troubled company are located. They can even work out of their home if necessary, according to Adams.
 SunGard will also introduce a nationwide system of MetroCenters(R), fully furnished state-of-the-art, multipurpose facilities. Each MetroCenter is pre-wired to support voice and data connectivity for telephones, terminals and LAN workstations. Additional equipment such as terminals and PCs may be provided either on a pre-installed basis or by utilizing SunData's Quick Ship Solution. For Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) support, the MetroCenters are designed to provide access to SunGard's centralized voice recovery system.
 SunGard's centralized voice recovery system will be demonstrated and the latest technologies will be discussed during the two-day SunGard Disaster Recovery Conference.
