BUILDERS are being told to protect their infamous bums by using sunscreen lotion to guard against skin cancer.

Bosses of builders Lovell distributed huge bottles of cream to sites throughout Scotland after statistics showed the killer condition has trebled to 7,000 over the last 20 years.

A Lovell spokeswoman said: "We do take health and safety seriously and want to make sure that our staff do not become another skin cancer statistic.

"Anyone who comes on to a Lovell site will have access to good quality sunscreen.

"Workers are out in the sun day in and day out and are therefore at the highest risk of developing the disease."

Dispensers of high quality Factor 25 will be placed around sites.

Site Manager Bobby Caldwell, in charge of a development in Clydebank, said: "It is a great idea and I'm sure it will catch on around the country."
