SUNBANKS REALIGNS RESPONSIBILITIES

 SARASOTA, Fla., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- SunBanks, Inc. announced today that John P. Hashagen has been named chairman, president and chief executive officer of SunBank/Gulf Coast to replace Hans W. Tews who is returning to Orlando to resume his statewide holding company responsibilities.
 Hashagen currently serves as senior executive vice president, SunBank of Tampa Bay with responsibility for the Hillsborough and Pinellas branch system, residential real estate, commercial and consumer lending. He began his SunBank career in 1986 as top corporate banking executive for SunBank of Tampa Bay, following 15 years as a senior corporate banker with Irving Trust Company's New York and Atlanta offices. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and holds an MBA from St. John's University.
 Tews spent 2 years in Sarasota as chairman, president and chief executive officer to oversee acquisition and consolidation activities which have recently culminated in SunBank/Gulf Coast with $2 billion in assets serving Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties. As executive vice president, SunBanks, Inc., Tews will be involved in community and pubic affairs in addition to giving leadership to certain SunBanks, Inc. functions.
 SunBanks has 374 Florida offices and $19.4 billion in assets. SunBanks is the Florida affiliate of SunTrust Banks, Inc., a $37.5 billion super regional bank holding company.
