SUNBANK CONSOLIDATES BANKING OPERATIONS IN THREE COUNTIES

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- SunBanks, Inc. announced today that it would combine SunBank and Trust, which operates in Hernando and Citrus counties, with SunBank of Pasco County. This is a continuation of SunBank's strategy to optimize the size of each of its affiliate banks according to the needs of the local market, and is the fourth such consolidation in the past two years.
Wendell H. Colson, chairman and president of SunBanks, Inc., stated "We want to right size our banks to match the needs of each of the markets we serve. The combination of SunBank and Trust and SunBank of Pasco County will improve our service and delivery capabilities in a number of important areas."
James H. Kimbrough, president and chief executive officer of SunBank and Trust, has assumed those same positions at SunBank of Pasco County and will continue as head of the combined bank when the consolidation is completed in early 1994. John Batsch, the former president of SunBank of Pasco County, has been reassigned to the holding company in Orlando, reporting to Jimmy O. Williams, executive vice president, who oversees nine affiliate banks.
When consolidated, the new three county bank is expected to have more than $900 million in assets, 26 banking locations, and approximately 400 employees.
Kimbrough, a fifth generation Floridian with 26 years of banking experience, was the founding vice chairman of Pasco-Hernando Community College. He was appointed by the governor to serve as a member of the Florida Transportation Commission representing Pasco, Hernando, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, and is also the current president of the Gator Boosters and serves on the board of the St. Leo College Foundation.
SunBanks, Inc. is the third largest bank in Florida with nearly $20 billion in assets and more than 350 offices. SunBanks is part of SunTrust Banks (NYSE: STI), the $40 billion super regional bank holding company based in Atlanta.
