 EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT
 CHICAGO, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas J. Neri has been promoted to executive vice president of planning development for The Sun-Times Company.
 Neri, 41, has been senior vice president for finance & operations and chief financial officer of the Chicago Sun-Times since 1990. He previously served as vice president and CFO of the Sun-Times Company's flagship newspaper.
 In making the announcement, Sam S. McKeel, president and chief executive officer of the newspaper holding company and publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times, said, "Tom's breadth of experience and his strong leadership qualities have been valuable assets for the Chicago Sun- Times. I'm pleased that we are able to fill this key slot at the holding company from within our own ranks."
 In his new role, Neri will serve as chief planning officer for the holding company and provide the line management for new, non traditional publishing ventures and coordination among the Chicago Sun Times, Pioneer Press and Star Publications.
 Neri joined the Chicago Sun-Times in 1989 as vice president and chief financial officer for the newspaper. A year later, he was named senior vice president for finance and operations and CFO. Before joining the Sun-Times, he was CFO and director of operations at Pioneer Press. Previously, he was on the staff of the Tribune Co. for 10 years.
 With Neri's appointment to the holding company staff, the finance and operations departments will be reporting to Michael J. Veitch, executive vice president and general manager of the Chicago Sun-Times.
 A 1973 graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.S. in accounting, Neri is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, the American Management Association and the International Newspaper Financial Executives.
 A Chicago native, he and his wife Cindy have three children: Jason, 6, and Alyssa, 4, and Jaclyn, one and a half. They reside in Willowbrook, Ill.
