SUN-OPERATED NORTH SEA WELL TESTS AT 6,000 BARRELS PER DAY

SUN-OPERATED NORTH SEA WELL TESTS AT 6,000 BARRELS PER DAY
RADNOR, Pa., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Company, Inc. (NYSE: SUN) said that an appraisal well in the Stirling field of the North Sea operated by its North Sea subsidiary tested at approximately 6,000 barrels per day on a 44/64-inch choke with a wellhead pressure of 750 pounds per square inch.
The well is a 3,000-foot "sidetrack" drilled horizontally off a prior appraisal well at a depth of 8,000 feet. Sun said the well's "Productivity Index" is much greater than that of the original well because the current well extends horizontally through the top section of the formation and has therefore greatly reduced water contamination in the oil produced.
The Stirling field is a Devonian reservoir underlying the Balmoral field in blocks 16/21a and 16/21c of the British North Sea. The well, designated 16/21a-20z, is located approximately one kilometer from the Floating Production Vessel operated by Sun for the Balmoral field.
Sun said that drilling and testing of the well are important steps in appraising the Stirling field. The company said test data are being analyzed to determine if the well should be tied in to the existing Balmoral infrastructure in order to perform an extended well test.
The well was drilled by Stirling field operator Sun Oil Britain Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Company. Equity in the Stirling field is as follows:
Sun Oil Britain Limited 37.2 pct.
 ARCO British Limited 17.68 pct.
Summit North Sea Oil Limited 16.0 pct.
 Clyde Expro PLC 9.0 pct.
Deminex UK Oil and Gas Limited 9.0 pct.
 Goal Petroleum plc 6.32 pct.
LASMO North Sea PLC 4.8 pct.
