 SUN TELEVISION AND APPLIANCES, INC.
REPORTS EARNINGS FOR THE SECOND FISCAL QUARTER
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Television and Appliances, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNTV) today reported that net income rose 64.9 percent in its second quarter ending August 31, 1992 to $2,149,000 versus $1,303,000 for the similar period last year. Earnings per share for the quarter rose 30.4 percent to $.30 versus $.23 last year, notwithstanding an increase of 25.6 percent in Sun's average shares outstanding this quarter due to the company's common stock offerings during the fiscal year ended February 29, 1992. As previously reported, net sales and service revenues rose 48.4 percent to $78,760,000 from $53,073,000 in the second quarter ending August 31, 1991. Comparable store sales increased 7.5 percent during the quarter versus the prior year.
For the six months ended August 31, 1992, net income increased 62.3 percent to $3,387,000 versus $2,087,000 for the comparable prior year period. Earnings per share for the six-month period rose 23.7 percent to $.47 per share versus $.38 per share last year notwithstanding an increase of 31.8 percent in Sun's average shares outstanding. Net sales and service revenues for the six-month period this year rose 44.3 percent to $149,021,000 from $103,253,000 reported for the similar period last year. Revenue from additional superstores opened during the latter part of fiscal year ended February 29, 1992, as well as comparable store sales increases of 5.7 percent, contributed significantly to that growth, and more than offset a decline in air conditioner sales attributable to cool weather in the spring and summer of 1992.
The company opened its twenty-fifth store (fifth in the Cleveland metropolitan area) in July of this year in Elyria, Ohio and just recently opened its twenty-sixth store (sixth in the Cleveland metropolitan area) in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. In addition, two superstores in Western Pennsylvania, and two in Northern Ohio are expected to open in fiscal year ending February 28, 1993.
Sun Television and Appliances, Inc., with 26 stores in Central and Northern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, is a leading specialty retailer of high quality, brand name consumer electronics, home appliances and home office products in its market areas. Sun TV's common stock is traded over the counter and is quoted on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol SNTV.
