SUN PUTS CAROLINA MARKETING SUBSIDIARY UP FOR SALE
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Company, Inc. (NYSE: SUN)

today announced its intention to sell the assets of Mid-State Oil Company, a retail marketing subsidiary headquartered in Lexington, N.C.
Mid-State Oil markets under the Sunoco brand through a chain of 50 retail outlets located primarily in North Carolina. In addition to company-operated convenience stores and traditional dealer operations, the business includes a bulk lubricant distributorship. Also included in Mid-State's assets are two marketing terminals and some supply agreements.
Jerry Shea, Sunoco sales vice president, said Sun is selling the Mid-State properties based on a recent review of Sun's overall marketing plans. "We've determined that the Carolinas no longer fit our marketing direction, given Sun's primary focus in the northeastern United States," he said.
During the 1980s, Sun withdrew from marketing in the southeastern states, except for the Carolinas, and in 1984 sold Fast Fare, a chain of convenience stores in the Carolinas.
Shea said that parties interested in purchasing the Mid-State Oil assets should contact Dan Hughes, Sun's director of real estate/special projects at Ten Penn Center, Philadelphia, Pa. 19103, 215-977-3233.
