SUN MICROSYSTEMS AWARDS MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT TO QUICKTURN SYSTEMS EMULATION SYSTEMS TO BE INSTALLED AT MULTIPLE SITES

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. (SMCC) has purchased $1 million of emulation systems from Quickturn Systems, it was revealed today. The contract calls for delivery of Quickturn's new Enterprise Emulation System(TM). The emulation systems will be delivered to multiple Sun development sites.
According to Howard Lee, vice president of Sun's SPARC Technology Division, "Quickturn's emulation products have been field-proven in the area of microprocessor development to shorten verification time. We will use the Quickturn equipment as a major development and verification tool for Sun's next generation of SPARC(R) microprocessors and workstations. Although our current simulations utilize virtually infinite CPU resources -- thousands of MIPS -- emulation affords us a new dimension of verification which significantly increases the types and number of applications we can run. This in turn builds confidence both before and after tape-out."
Also included in the contract is Quickturn's Verilog Co-Simulation Interface jointly developed by Precedence and Quickturn Systems and used to integrate the emulation platforms into the design environment.
