SUMMIT TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES RESULTS FROM SECOND ANNUAL CONGRESS OF
 SUMMIT INTERNATIONAL LASER USER GROUP
WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Summit Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAM) announced today that the Second Annual Congress of the Summit International Laser User Group took place in Montreux, Switzerland from Sept. 3 to Sept. 6, 1992. The mission of the group is to guide and monitor the evolution of excimer and holmium laser technology for ophthalmic refractive surgery throughout the world. The meeting was attended by over 300 ophthalmologists from 43 countries. Scientific papers were presented by over 65 ophthalmologists from the 34 countries where Summit's lasers are currently in operation.
The Congress reported that one to four year follow-up on over 20,000 patients demonstrated that approximately 92 percent of all patients are corrected to 20/40 or better, which in most states is the legal standard for driving without corrective lenses. Among topics discussed was the growing understanding and excitement about the use of various medications to enhance the predictability and stability of PRK.
Summit anticipates making a complete compendium of the papers available early next year.
Summit Technology, Inc. has established the leadership position in designing, manufacturing and marketing ophthalmic refractive laser systems where applications have been developed for the treatment of common vision disorders such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, glaucoma and certain corneal irregularities due to disease or injury.
