SUMMIT CLARIFIES PRESS RELEASE

WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Subsequent to its issuance of a press release on Oct. 12, 1993 regarding its submission to FDA of its PMA Application for commercial sale of its excimer laser system to correct myopia, Summit was informed that another manufacturer of a refractive laser system had previously submitted a similar application. Summit's PMA Application contained patient follow-up data for both 12 and 18 months while, to the best of the company's knowledge, the other company's submission was based only on 12 month data. Summit believes that this is of minor significance and is issuing a press release for clarification purposes only.
Summit Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAM) is a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture and sale of ophthalmic laser systems designed to correct common refractive vision disorders such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
