 WASHINGTON, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Buoyed by its highly successful Batman Returns $250,000 Cash Sweepstakes television advertising campaign, Choice Hotels International reported a blockbuster start to summer in June with reservation dollar sales up an impressive 29.7 percent over the same month a year ago.
 "Last June, reservation dollar sales were up 3.9 percent over June 1990. That makes this year's high performance increase even more rewarding," reported an ebullient Robert C. Hazard Jr., Choice chairman and CEO.
 Hazard sourced the favorable early summer results to increased television advertising, more group tour and family marketing and high-profile quality improvement in the Choice system, as well as the publicity surrounding the 50 percent airfare wars, reasonable gasoline prices and a perception of affordable summer travel.
 "The preferred recreational activity for Choice hoteliers this summer will be filling rooms and satisfying guests," Hazard noted. "After 22 months of recession, doom and gloom, we're ready for a boom in this industry."
