SULCUS COMPUTER TO AUTOMATE FRONT DESK OPERATIONS FOR OVERSEAS HOTELS OF HOLIDAY INN WORLDWIDE

GREENSBURG, Pa., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Sulcus Computer Corporation (AMEX: SUL) today announced the signing of the largest transaction-based contract in its corporate history, a software and services agreement to automate the front desk operations of every Holiday Inn outside of North America. Sulcus Hospitality Group will provide Holiday Inn's existing overseas hotels with the proprietary Sulcus LANmark system, and for a minimum of seven years will receive a monthly fee per room from each existing and future Holiday Inn hotel outside of North America. The overseas hotels have in excess of 50,000 rooms. The agreement provides for annual one-year extensions after the seventh year. The agreement also provides that Sulcus, effective Oct. 1, 1993, will take over the service and support contracts for all existing Holiday Inns presently using Holiday's internally developed Property Management software.
Paul E. Hammar, managing director, Sulcus Computer Corp. said that "The first installations will take place next month in England, with a minimum of 225 Holiday Inn hotels throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, Scandinavia, India, Africa and South America to be completely installed with LANmark systems by Oct. 31, 1994. Each installation provides a two-way interface between our LANmark Property Management System and Holiday Inn's Holidex(TM) central reservation system. This agreement provides not only the strongest endorsement yet of Sulcus' unique capabilities, but lays a foundation for higher Sulcus revenues and profits on a continuing basis."
The contract also incorporates an option for each hotel to purchase additional Sulcus products on the same per room, per month basis. These additional Sulcus products include Back Office, Sales and Catering Management, Squirrel Point-of-Sale System and the NRG in Room Management and Energy Cost Saving Systems. Mr. Hammar added that "as new Holiday Inn properties are opened overseas, they will be added to the agreement encompassing the LANmark front office software contract."
Holiday Inn Worldwide has been aggressively developing properties both within North America and outside its borders, recently announcing that it had open 91 hotels with an average pace of one every other day, for the first six months of 1993.
Jeffrey S. Ratner, chairman and chief executive officer of Sulcus Computer Corp., commented that "This agreement with one of the world's largest hotel companies further establishes Sulcus as a premier developer in the provision of automation systems and services for the hospitality industry worldwide. This arrangement creates a platform to extend to Holiday Inns other key Sulcus software and hardware products, all of them aimed at increasing the productivity and the profitability of those establishments."
"Technological innovation has always been a hallmark of Holiday Inn," said Richard L. Smith, senior vice president - Information Technology, Holiday Inn Worldwide. "Since the introduction of Holidex(TM), the first computerized hotel reservation system, in 1955, we have led the industry. We are continuing this tradition with the automation of front desk operations in our properties outside of North America."
