The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), a combat support agency within the United States Department of Defense (DoD), has chosen InfoVista's end-to-end network performance management solution to help modernize DISA's Joint Information Environment's (JIE) Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS).

InfoVista is the marquee vendor working on the project, which is a collaboration between 17 different IT providers, including VAE Information Technology and Norseman Defense Technologies. With a holistic view of each vendor's input, InfoVista can monitor network performance and troubleshoot problems proactively. This improves collaboration, better prepares the network to handle future demand and diminishes defense-related latency.

Once the initiative is complete, the JRSS system will help support a virtual private network (VPN) using InfoVista's service assurance platform. This VPN will be capable of Multiprotocol Label Switched (MPLS) service that allows Joint Router-Customer Edge (JR-CE) and Joint Base-Customer Edge (JB-CE) routers to function on a single MPLS domain. As a result, sensitive JRSS traffic flows will be more easily monitored by parties using the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN).

Along with improving the efficiency of DISA VPNs, the JRSS installation will also help make networks and the data transferred over them more secure. InfoVista network performance management will speed up latency between these security stacks, allowing potential malware to be quickly recognized and patched to defend the VPN and protect sensitive DoD information.

DISA is tasked with the important duty of managing sensitive information that requires network security of the highest caliber. They also operate one of the largest networks in the world today, said Sylvain Quartier, SVP Products and Markets Strategy at InfoVista. We have been trusted with monitoring some of the largest CSPs and mobile networks in the past. As a result, we perfectly understand the operational challenges associated with the management of sophisticated networks that contain hundreds of thousands of network elements in multiple domains with complete technology and multi-vendor coverage.

InfoVista beat out several competing IT vendors to provide the network performance management support architecture that ties the JRSS providing vital storage capabilities to the United States Department of Defense.

VistaInsight for Networks enables DISA to effectively meet and exceed its network performance expectations, while granting them the insight necessary to implement next- generation networks and IT services. The actionable service performance visibility of the solution enables a new level of control over the planning, deployment and operational phases of their next-generation IP, transport and RAN networks. The JIE-JRSS initiative is a long-awaited modernization project that will improve latency and streamline functionality of existing Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) networks.

DISA is currently completing work on 10 of 11 planned JRSS sites within the continental United States as well as five remote locations.
