SUBARU SVX RECEIVES POPULAR MECHANICS AWARD
 FOR DESIGN AND ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE
CHERRY HILL, N.J., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Four new-for-1992 automobiles were recently singled out for excellence by Popular Mechanics magazine, and only one, the Subaru SVX, can be purchased for less than $30,000.
"Subaru stands for durability, reliability, go-anywhere toughness, and, especially, value," said Tom Gibson, president of Subaru of America. "And these characteristics are incorporated into all of our cars, including the SVX, our ultimate luxury performance vehicle!"
Sharing the 1992 Design & Engineering Awards for automobiles with the Cadillac Seville STS, Dodge Viper RT/10 and Mercedes-Benz 600SEL, the Subaru SVX was praised for its uniqueness,
"Subaru has always dared to be different, but never so attractively as this," the editors wrote. "With its fighter plane cockpit, 230-horse power flat-six engine, all wheel drive and excellent handling, this high-tech coupe is defiantly individualistic."
The Subaru SVX has received major awards from AUTOMOBILE magazine, Automotive Industries magazine and Popular Science, in addition to the Popular Mechanics citation.
"We knew we had a winner from day one," said Gibson. "Now our opinion has been confirmed by the most discriminating critics in the automotive media."
The Subaru SVX combines a high-performance package including full- time all-wheel drive, anti-lock-equipped four-wheel disc brakes, 230- horsepower six-cylinder engine and computer-controlled four-speed automatic transmission with the luxury of automatic climate controls, power windows/locks/mirrors/, remote-controlled security system, AM/FM/cassette audio system and available leather upholstery and sunroof.
Its combination of luxury and performance comes clothed in aerodynamically honed body featuring a unique "window-in-window" design providing a relatively large amount glass and fully-retracting door windows.
The complete Subaru range, Justy, Loyale, Legacy and SVX, is sold nationwide through 730 franchise dealers. The SVX, like all Subaru products, comes with a three-year/36,000 warranty and a five- year/unlimited-mileage corrosion warranty. In addition, owners of the luxury performance coupe receive 24-hour emergency roadside assistance.
