SUBARU IMPREZA COUPE TO DEBUT AT GREATER LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America today unveiled its youth-oriented all-wheel drive Impreza Coupe to the world at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show here.
The sprightly subcompact coupe goes on sale later this year through the company's nearly 740 dealers.
According to SOA President George Muller, the company is targeting young buyers for the new, 110-horsepower two door, especially female ones.
"Safety features like dual airbags and AWD combined with the attractive, manageably sized coupe styling make this a likely candidate for young, successful female buyers who want a stylish, yet value- oriented vehicle," he explained. "Backing up the Impreza Coupe's good looks and manners is Subaru's traditional reliability and durability, prime considerations for this market segment."
Thanks to its AWD system, the Impreza Coupe will be unique within the small coupe segment -- the only sub-$15,000 AWD two-door passenger car -- and should provide an excellent alternative for active young people, Muller added.
"The young, upscale buyers targeted are physically active and more interested in outdoor activities such as skiing, biking, camping and hiking than the general population," he said.
"And thanks to a four-wheel independent suspension derived from the compact-sized Legacy, the Impreza Coupe handles and rides like much larger cars," explained Muller.
The Coupe shares its 110-hp, 16-valve, four-cylinder engine and fully independent suspension with the Subaru Impreza Sedan and Station Wagon (both introduced in the spring of 1993).
The Impreza Coupe joins the Impreza Sedan and Sport Wagon, Justy, Loyale Station Wagon, SVX luxury-performance coupe and an array of Legacy station wagons and sedans, including the new active-lifestyle wagons, in Subaru's 1994 lineup.
