SUBARU ANNOUNCES SPECIAL LEASING DEAL ON 1993 LEGACY MODELS -- PROGRAM WILL RUN UNTIL OCT. 4 --

CHERRY HILL, N.J., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA), today announced an aggressive leasing program for all of its 1993 Legacy models. The program, which starts today, runs through Oct. 4, 1993, and will be supported with a regional and local advertising campaign.
The Legacy sedan, with standard front-wheel drive, driver's-side airbag, power windows and locks, air conditioning and cruise control, will be offered for as low as $199 a month for 36 months with a customer down payment of $1,000. The rest of the Legacy line, including the top of the line LSi models, will also be available at equally competitive monthly payments.
The Legacy is Subaru's most popular model, accounting for 62 percent of total sales in 1992, the majority of which were built at the company's U.S. manufacturing plant in Lafayette, Ind. The Legacy lease program is the most aggressive leasing incentive program Subaru has ever offered on that model.
"With the growing popularity of leasing programs, the Legacy lease will be another important vehicle to help underscore the value of Subaru," said George T. Muller, executive vice president of Subaru of America, Inc. "We're pleased to deliver another competitive program to our dealers and expect its results to match the success we've had with the Impreza lease program."
The special leasing program for the Impreza, Subaru's new subcompact for 1993, has been in effect since April 14. Leases have accounted for 15-20 percent of Impreza's sales to date.
Subaru of America, Inc., is the exclusive United States marketer of Subaru products manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd., of Japan. Headquartered in Cherry Hill, N.J., SOA markets the Legacy, Justy, SVX, Loyale and Impreza models, along with replacement parts and accessories through a network of company-owned and independent distributors who serve nearly 725 franchised dealers nationwide.
