 KALAMAZOO, Mich., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Stryker Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: STRY) reported today that net sales for the second quarter ended June 30, 1992, were $117,084,000, representing a 32-percent increase over sales of $88,591,000 in the second quarter of 1991. Net earnings for the quarter increased 49 percent to $11,050,000 from $7,400,000 in 1991 and net earnings per share increased 44 percent to $0.23 from $0.16.
 During the first half of 1992, net sales increased 32 percent to $229,674,000 from $174,272,000 for the same period last year. Net earnings were $22,080,000, equal to $0.46 per share, compared to $15,180,000, or $0.32 per share, in 1991, representing a 45-percent increase in net earnings and a 44-percent increase in net earnings per share.
 Sales of surgical products increased 32 percent in the second quarter and 30 percent for the first half of 1992 compared to 1991. The leading surgical sales gains came from Osteonics orthopedic implants, endoscopic systems and powered surgical instruments.
 Sales of medical products increased 33 percent in the second quarter and 44 percent for the first half of 1992 compared to 1991. The medical sales gain resulted from increased shipments of patient handling equipment and increased revenues from physical therapy services.
 International sales increased 41 percent in the second quarter, led by Osteonics orthopedic implant sales by the company's Pacific Division and endoscopic system sales by all of the company's international divisions. International sales were 33 percent of total sales in the first six months of 1992 compared to 31 percent in 1991.
 Stryker Corporation develops, manufactures and markets specialty surgical and medical products including orthopedic implants, powered surgical instruments, endoscopic systems and patient handling equipment for the world market.
