DRIVE ANGRY 104mins Opens Friday, February 25

THE STARS Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, William Fichtner, Billy Burke.

John Milton (Cage) is a vengeful father in a turbo-charged '69 Dodge Charger who will move heaven and earth to track down the satanic cult leader who murdered his daughter and wants to sacrifice his granddaughter. With the help of feisty waitress Piper (Heard) he evades assassins, police and a mysterious figure called The Accountant (Fichtner) in his race to rescue the child.

This Nic Cage supernatural action-adventure is brilliant pulse-pounding entertainment. Raw, bloody, funny and exciting, it is an old-fashioned exploitation movie to be cherished - and looks fantastic in in-yer-face 3D.

Drive Angry brims with gunfights, naked bodies, car chases and occult madness, with director Patrick Lussier (who made cult 3D hit My Bloody Valentine) expertly blending black comedy with supernatural thrills.

It is also the sort of role that is perfect for Cage's trademark weirdness, and he certainly looks the part as the former criminal who has broken out of hell to rescue his infant granddaughter from a loopy band of devilworshippers led by murderous quasi-messiah Jonah King (Burke).

With just three days to find the baby before they sacrifice her at the full moon, he smartly enlists the help of beautiful waitress Piper (the delicious and talented Heard), who happens to have a mean car and an even meaner right hook.

With the clock ticking, they tear up the road and just about anyone in their way. As well as cops and killers, also on their trail is the mysterious Accountant (Fichtner, brilliantly playing his role for laughs) who has been dispatched from hell to bring John Milton (a literary in-joke - Milton is the author of the epic poem Paradise Lost) back to serve his time in hell.

But with guns blazing, fists bloodied and not without a few supernatural powers of his own, this vengeful anti-hero is not to be stopped and, after much 3D mayhem, the scene is set for a final showdown between Milton and the devil-worshipping hordes.

Big, bold, bloody and brilliant... Drive Angry is a perfect piece of exploitation mayhem. Never subtle but always crazily entertaining
