STRONG ATTENDANCE AND SALES AT 1993 BOAT SHOW

DETROIT, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The 35th Annual Detroit Boat Show ended on Feb. 7, reporting a closing attendance figure down 2.7 percent from the previous year. The 1993 show saw 107,996 visitors during its nine-day run at Cobo Center in Detroit. In 1992, the show saw 110,957 visitors.
"Had our show dates not overlapped with Superbowl Sunday, our attendance would have been up this year," said Van W. Snider Jr., Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA) executive director. "We showed increases in attendance except for Superbowl Sunday, where we saw a 30-percent decrease."
Despite the minimal decrease in attendance, sales reports are favorable. A post-show sales survey, currently under way, will determine how sales fared during the show and will also help produce a measure for upcoming sales in Michigan for the 1993 season.
