STROH SPONSORS BIRTHDAY BASH BENEFIT FOR MINNESOTA RED CROSS

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Stroh Brewery Company today announced plans to sponsor a multi-band concert "bash" to celebrate its 10th anniversary in St. Paul and to thank citizens for a decade of support. All proceeds from the concert will be donated to the American Red Cross, Minnesota Chapter for its flood relief efforts.
"Stroh's Birthday Bash Benefit for the Minnesota Red Cross" will feature four local bands, including the Hoopsnakes, Ipso Facto, Molly and the Heymakers and Mississippi Live Country All Stars. The bands will begin playing at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in the St. Paul Civic Center.
Since Stroh opened its St. Paul facility in October 1983, it has been Minnesota's largest brewer. Over the past decade, the state's beer drinkers have extended tremendous support to Stroh's products, making Minnesota one of Stroh's largest-volume states, explained Lacey Logan, director of corporate communications. Through sponsorship of the Birthday Bash concert, Logan said, Stroh hopes to reciprocate the sense of community that has embraced the company.
"In celebrating our 10-year anniversary, we wanted to recognize the people of St. Paul, who for the last decade, have supported us through their patronage and community acceptance," Logan said.
The concert is also an expression of appreciation for the support local residents extended to their neighbors who were victimized by this summer's flood.
"We are asking everyone touched by the disastrous flood to join us for this evening of celebration to thank the local volunteers who so generously donated water, time or money to help the flood victims, and to honor the American Red Cross for their relentless efforts," said Logan.
"At the heart of everything we do are our volunteers," said Kim Dockter, director of financial development of the St. Paul American Red Cross. "How we respond in time of an emergency is entirely based on the training of our volunteers. The Stroh Brewery Company is enabling us to help not only the victims of this area's most recent disaster, but to thank our volunteers and help us train for any future relief efforts."
In addition to the upcoming benefit concert, Stroh undertook an earlier effort to support the Red Cross' flood relief program by packaging and shipping drinking water to relief sites in Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri in July.
"The day the flood struck Des Moines, the American Red Cross called Stroh asking us for help," Logan said. "The 350 employees of the St. Paul brewery responded immediately by bottling and canning more than 120,000 quarts of water from our artesian well."
Five semi-truck loads of Stroh-supplied water left the same day for Iowa, and later that week, as the flood continued to ravage the Midwest, Stroh responded again by dispatching additional truckloads.
"We want to recognize those people who undertook their own personal efforts to contribute to the flood relief, as well as the Red Cross for coordinating such a tremendous program," Logan said.
Stroh's Birthday Bash Benefit for the Minnesota Red Cross is being produced by Game, Inc. and is also sponsored by Cities 97, BOB 100, City Pages and the St. Paul Civic Center.
Tickets to the concert are only $3.50 in advance, plus convenience charge, and may be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations, including Dayton's and Great American Music Stores, or charged by phone (612-989-5151).
The Stroh Brewery Company is Minnesota's largest brewer with 350 employees, and has operated on St. Paul's east side for the last 10 years.
