STREET FAIR SET FOR OLD TOWN NEWHALL TO OFFER MUSIC, FOOD, FUN.

San Fernando Road will come to life all day with music, dancing, food and fun during the fourth annual Old Town Newhall Street Faire on Saturday between Sixth and Ninth streets in Newhall.

Sponsored by the Newhall Redevelopment Committee and the Old Town Newhall Association, the free festival will offer activities and entertainment for the whole family in the historic downtown area, featuring Western-themed musicians, a car show, visual and performing arts and crafts of all varieties.

Musical entertainment will include the award-winning New West with leader Mike Fleming also serving as emcee on the Market Street stage, Mitch Speed and Mendin' Fences, and Belinda Gail with her group Saugus Station. There will also be special appearances by the barbershop quartets Sings With the Fishes and Chordz-a-Poppin, the Canyon Theatre Guild, Ballet Folklorio and a mariachi band.

For the kids, Jim Gamble Puppet Productions will present three performances of ``The Wide World of Puppets'' throughout the day.

Back by popular demand, Cowgirl Julie will show children how to create lasso wind wands, Western vests and other children's crafts. A petting zoo and ``horsey'' bounce, sponsored by area merchants, will be free for children and pony rides will be available for a nominal fee.

For car aficionados, Danny Muscari of SoundStation has organized a car show with restored classic automobiles. A quilt show, featuring works by Blazing Star Quilters and other local artisans, will be held in the Republican Party headquarters office on San Fernando Road.

Visual arts will also be celebrated as the works of the Santa Clarita Artists Association are displayed in the former Newhall Photo storefront and along San Fernando Road between the Santa Clarita Repertory Theatre and the Canyon Theatre Guild.

Food vendors will dot the street offering such treats as Kettle Korn, barbecued sandwiches, caramel apples and fruit ices. El Trocadero and Thai Pepper will be open for business for those who would like a sit-down meal.

San Fernando Road between Fifth Street and Lyons Avenue will be closed for the event, which is free and open to the public. For information, call Carol Rock with the Old Town Newhall Association at (661) 251-9457.
