STRAWBRIDGE & CLOTHIER WELCOMES DAVID DICKENS IN CELEBRATION OF THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF 'A CHRISTMAS CAROL'
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- David Dickens, great-grandson of author Charles Dickens, will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the writing of "A Christmas Carol" at Strawbridge & Clothier's Philadelphia store, 8th and Market streets, Saturday, Nov. 20. Beginning at 10 a.m., David and his wife, Betty, will greet the first visitors to tour the store's animated re-creation of the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, as it opens for its eighth holiday season in the Children's Department, 4th floor. The walk-through holiday attraction spans 6,000 square feet, with 26 scenes and nearly 100 animated characters. Each year, more than 100,000 people visit "A Christmas Carol" at Strawbridge & Clothier. There is no admission fee. "This exhibit is simply brilliant," exclaimed David as he walked through. "I don't think there is anything like it anywhere in the world." Mr. and Mrs. Dickens will also be signing and personalizing limited edition copies of "A Christmas Carol," edited to be read aloud within one hour's time, on Christmas Eve. The books are available for $15; or for $7.50 with any $50 purchase storewide, beginning Saturday.
