STORE LODGES COMPO CLAIM.

Byline: KEVIN CORE

A NEW LOOK assistant and a shoplifter who carried out a sophisticated scam are to be pursued through the civil courts for pounds 18,000.

Wendy Atkins, 50, of Kingsway, Wallasey, admitted theft along with Caroline Crawford, 35, of Buckingham Avenue, Bebington.

In May last year, Atkins removed magnetic alarms, pocketed cash and hid items behind the counter, costing the Liscard store more than pounds 1,000.

She kept in contact with shoplifter Crawford by mobile phone, planning handovers of goods, with no money changing hands.

New Look declined compensation from the court and now intends to pursue the two women in the civil courts.

Atkins was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months, and a community order.

Crawford was given an 18-month community order with 180 hours of unpaid work..
