STONE & WEBSTER-LED CONSORTIUM RECEIVES CONTRACT IN JAKARTA

 NEW YORK, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- A Stone & Webster-led international consortium will engineer, build and supply equipment for the Suralaya power station in Java, Indonesia. Toronto-based Stone & Webster Canada Limited, Marubeni Corporation Japan, and Nuova Cimimontubi SPA, Italy, comprise the group awarded the contract by Perusahaan Umum Listrik Negara, Jakarta. Total contract value is US$156 million.
 The coal-fired Suralaya station is on the northwestern tip of Java, approximately 100 km west of Jakarta. Plans call for three 600 megawatt units to be built near the four existing plants, bringing the total station capacity TO 3,400 megawatts. The first unit will go on line in February 1997 and the others will be commissioned at six-month intervals.
 The consortium is responsible for engineering, design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of mechanical and electrical equipment that constitutes the balance of plant systems.
 Stone & Webster Canada Limited provides engineering, procurement, construction and project management services to power, process, industrial and environmental clients in Canada and abroad. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Stone & Webster, Incorporated (NYSE: SW), New York City.
