STONE & WEBSTER CANADA RECEIVES MAJOR TORONTO TRANSIT COMMISSION DESIGN AND ENGINEERING CONTRACT

 TORONTO, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Stone & Webster Canada Limited has been awarded a contract from the Toronto Transit Commission to provide engineering and design services for a section of the Commission's Spadina subway extension.
 Stone & Webster is responsible for the engineering and design of a subway section running between the Keele/Finch and York University stations. The project will include a "cut and cover" underground subway structure with a rail crossover, cross passages, an emergency exit building, protection/relocation associated with affected utilities, storm-water management and drainage facilities.
 The first phase of the Rapid Transit Expansion Program (RTEP) being undertaken by the Toronto Transit Commission has an estimated capital cost of approximately $1.8 billion (U.S.) and will be designed and constructed over 7-10 years. Preliminary design work is under way on the Spadina subway and Scarborough Rapid Transit extensions, the new Eglinton West and Sheppard subways and an expansion to the Wilson Yard subway maintenance facilities.
