STONE & WEBSTER AWARDED CLEAN AIR PROJECT IN TAIWAN

DENVER, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation has been retained by Joy Environmental Technologies, Inc., to provide engineering support services in connection with a $155 million contract for the installation by Gottfried Bischoff GmbH and Joy Environmental of four flue gas desulfurization systems at Taiwan Power Company's Taichung power station. Joy Environmental's share of the project is $107 million.
The systems will remove sulfur dioxide from the exhaust of four coal-fired units, each of which has a 550-megawatt capacity. The station will be equipped with wet flue-gas desulfurization systems using European technology licensed by Joy Environmental from Gottfried Bischoff GmbH. These systems will use a limestone slurry to remove the sulfur dioxide and will produce a liquid waste and commercial-grade gypsum as a by-product.
