STOCKS INTERNATIONAL OFFERS FIRST COMPREHENSIVE INDUSTRY
RESOURCE GUIDE FOR LAWN AND GARDEN RETAIL CENTERS
WASHINGTON, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Stocks International, announced the creation of a new reference guide for lawn and garden professionals. Stocks is the first company to compile catalogues of the various manufacturers of lawn and garden equipment into an organized library so that retailers can see at a glance the various manufacturers of a product and the best price available.
Steve Jones, the president of Stocks International explained why this is such important news for the lawn and garden industry. "When a contractor is building an auditorium, he has reference books which give him all sorts of information. He can simply look under the heading 'Seating' and see all the different types available and how much they cost. It saves so much time, it's invaluable. But when you start working on the outside of a building there is no reference available to compare manufacturers. The information is scattered and sketchy. Our resource book allows a retailer the knowledge to offer clients exactly what they want at the most competitive price. They can compare goods without making 18 different phone calls and still be left wondering if there was somebody else to contact."
Many industry leaders agree. AmesTool Corp., a leading manufacturer of garden tools, heads up the tool section of the reference volume with their Home, Farm & Industry Catalogue No. 9100. Mike Deitsch, director of marketing, explained, "We think the Stocks Catalog is the marketing wave of the future for retailers. With one easy to use volume, retailers get product information and learn the hottest ways to merchandise and sell. That really builds our total merchandising support for dealers. With one easy to use volume, retailers get what they need to service their customers better."
Stocks plans to get the word out by distributing the reference volume to 10,000 independent retail centers free of charge. They are also offering some handy extras such as a quarterly newsletter with marketing and promotional advice, as well as a toll free reference number. Says Jones, "If a customer is looking for a specific kind of garden bench and their local lawn center can't locate one in our reference book, they call us any time, free of charge, and we have staff who immediately researches for him who makes it and where they can get it."
The lawn and garden business is currently a $21 billion a year business. The influx of yuppies to the suburbs and the country has taken gardening from the domain of little old ladies and placed it in the mainstream as a popular pastime. The new generation of lawn and garden professionals are becoming quite sophisticated too. "Young, college-educated, computer literate people are coming home to take over their parents landscaping and lawn business," said Jones. "They are bringing with them fresh ideas aided by computer technology and a desire to heavily market their services."
Heightened awareness and concern for the environment have also helped the industry, as well as a desire to go "back to basics." This movement, fostered by economic conditions, has made gardening trendy. "No matter what size lawn a person has, they want to look out the window and see a tree or flowers," comments Jones. "It's soothing and puts beauty into life. It's also much less expensive than redecorating your home!"
Retailers wishing a free copy of the Stocks Catalog 1992 can call 800-325-6226. Manufacturers, growers, and suppliers wishing information on being included in the 1993 Catalog should contact Stocks International for rates and insertion contract.
