BEIRUT: The Special Tribunal for Lebanon announced Friday that it will hand down a judgment in the case against Al-Akhbar Editor-in-Chief Ibrahim al-Amin in two weeks. Contempt Judge Nicola Lettieri has scheduled the hearing for July 15. Amin and his paper were both charged with contempt of court for publishing photographs and personal information of confidential witnesses scheduled to appear before the tribunal. Prosecutors contend Amin deliberately sought to intimidate witnesses and undermine the court. Amin has refused to appear or otherwise recognize the authority of the court, and counsel was assigned to represent him.
