STEWART & STEVENSON ACQUIRES QUALITY OILFIELD PRODUCTS

HOUSTON, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc. announced an agreement in principle to acquire substantially all of the assets and business of Quality Oilfield Products, Inc. of Houston, an international supplier of blowout prevention equipment, high pressure gate valves and wellheads, and well testing equipment.
Quality's operations and equipment have met both U.S. and international standards, including certifications as an ISO 9001 manufacturer, certification for use in the British and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea by Det Norske Veritas, and the American Petroleum Institute's Q1 program. Their products are in use by more than 100 companies throughout the world.
"This is a natural extension of Stewart & Stevenson Petroleum Equipment Group's existing product line," according to Bob H. O'Neal, president. "Our blowout prevention control systems and coiled tubing units are already in service worldwide, and QOP's excellent products add significantly to our ability to serve our customers."
QOP's blowout preventer line includes Ram and Annular units for drilling, coiled tubing and snubbing applications with size ranges from 2-1/2" to 30" and pressure ratings from 500 through 20,000 PSI.
Wellhead equipment is available in working pressures from 2,000 to 15,000 PSI, and includes both adjustable and positive chokes as well as a full line of gate valves that meet or exceed API Standard 6A. This equipment is available in sizes from 2-1/16" to 7-1/16". The well testing line includes solid block surface test trees, choke and kill line manifolding and valves.
Stewart & Stevenson's Petroleum Equipment Division will continue to operate Quality Oilfield Products manufacturing plants in Houston; Jennings, La.; and Arbroath, Scotland, and sales offices in Abu Dhabi, UAE; and Jakarta, Indonesia. Other sales and services operations of the two companies will be combined to most effectively meet customer requirements.
In addition to its petroleum equipment line, Stewart & Stevenson manufactures products used throughout the world in the marine, aviation, power generation and defense industries.
