STEVENS AVIATION EXTENDS FRIENDLY CHALLENGE TO SOUTHWEST AIRLINES
GREENVILLE, S.C., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Stevens Aviation, Inc., a chain of five ASOs in Ohio, Tennessee and South Carolina, will be the first to admit Southwest Airlines' (NYSE: LUV) new advertising line "Plane Smart" is clever and effective. After all, they should know. Stevens has been using "Plane Smart" in its advertising for quite some time.
While the usual route taken to resolve such a situation often involves lawyers, court rooms, and cease and desist orders, Stevens has decided there is a more exciting and non-litigious route to settling the issue -- one more in keeping with the fun-loving spirit upon which Southwest Airlines was founded: A best two out-of-three Arm Wrestling Match between Stevens Aviation Chairman Kurt Herwald and Southwest Airlines Chairman Herb Kelleher.
"As Vice President Dan Quayle has pointed out, we have too many lawyers and too many lawsuits in the U.S.," says Herwald. "When a company our size takes a company the size of Southwest to court, the only people who win are the lawyers. We figured an arm wrestling contest could save the taxpayers, who also happen to be our customers, a few dollars while adding a little adventure to the process."
Southwest has responded favorably to the challenge and a date is currently being negotiated.
