STEVEN G. STAVES NAMED PRESIDENT, STERLING HEALTH USA

 NEW YORK, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Winthrop Inc. today announced that Steven G. Staves has been promoted to the position of President, Sterling Health USA, the U.S. consumer health products division of Sterling Winthrop. Staves succeeds Douglas L. Meyer who has left the company.
 In making the announcements William G. Pietersen, president, Sterling Winthrop Consumer Health Group said, "Steve brings more than 18 years of domestic and international consumer health products sales and marketing experience to this position. His broad experience and understanding of the increasingly valuable role consumer health products play, particularly in the changing health care environment, will enable our U.S. division to enhance its ability to capitalize on changing consumer needs."
 Sterling Health USA manufactures and markets such products as Bayer(R) aspirin and Bayer(R)Select(TM) non-aspirin analgesics, Bayer Select cold and flu products, Midol(R) pain relievers, Phillips'(R) milk of magnesia, Stri-Dex(R) medicated skin-care products, Dairy Ease(R) natural nutritional supplement, and Campho-Phenique(R) topical antiseptics.
 Staves joined Sterling Winthrop in 1988 as Vice President, Marketing, in what was then the Winthrop Consumer Products division and was subsequently promoted to the position of Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Glenbrook Laboratories, the former name of Sterling Winthrop's U.S. consumer health products division.
 In 1991, Staves was named General Manager, Mexico/Central America, where he had responsibility for managing both the pharmaceutical and consumer health products businesses in that region.
 Staves returned to Sterling Winthrop's New York City headquarters in 1992 to assume the Position of Vice President, Marketing, within the company's global Consumer Health Group. He accepted additional responsibilities last year for managing the Group's Strategic Planning function.
 In addition to his sales and marketing management experience at Sterling Winthrop, Staves previously held a number of increasingly responsible positions in marketing management, domestically and internationally, for Richardson-Vicks Inc.
 Staves has a B.A. degree from Rutgers University and attended the University of Washington graduate program.
