 AVON, Conn., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Value Health, Inc., (NYSE: VH) announced today that Stephen D. Linehan, former president of its American PsychManagement subsidiary, will become president and chief operating officer of ValueRx in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Concurrently, Barry M. Smith moves up to chairman of ValueRx, and continues as chief executive officer.
 "The rapid growth of ValueRx's business requires a deepening and strengthening of the management team, and we are pleased now to have the skills of two top professionals leading the company," said Robert E. Patricelli, chairman and CEO of Value Health.
 "With Matt Thomas assuming the presidency of Value Behavioral Health, the new company to be formed by the proposed merger of American PsychManagement and Preferred Health Care Ltd., Steve Linehan became available and is being tapped to assume the day-to-day management of what is the largest segment of our business," Patricelli added.
 ValueRx began operations in 1985 and in just eight years has grown to become a full service manager of pharmaceutical benefit programs nationwide, with almost five million covered lives, 775 clients and 29,000 network pharmacies. It offers both a mail order and a retail pharmacy based program.
 Smith has been president and CEO of ValueRx since June 1990. "He has led the company through a period of phenomenal growth, and we are pleased that he will continue to lead the enterprise," Patricelli added.
 Linehan has served as president and CEO of American PsychManagement (APM) since April 1991. During his tenure at APM, revenues increased from $30 million in 1990 to a projected $90 million by year-end 1993. Prior to joining APM, Linehan held several management positions in the managed care and health insurance industries, including serving as president and CEO of Alternative Health Delivery Systems, Inc., senior vice president of managed care for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky, and president and CEO of MetLife's Health Care Network of Kentucky and Ohio. He also served two terms as mayor of Lake Saint Louis, Mo.
