STERLING WINTHROP NAMES JANE MELVILLE CORPORATE VICE PRESIDENT, MANUFACTURING; JOINS COMPANY'S EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 NEW YORK, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Winthrop, Inc., today announced the appointment of Jane Melville to the position of Corporate Vice President, Manufacturing.
 Melville was also named a member of Sterling Winthrop's Executive Committee, which sets overall business strategy for the global pharmaceuticals and consumer health products company. Melville will report directly to Sterling Winthrop Chairman and CEO, Louis P. Mattis.
 "This promotion reflects Jane's significant accomplishment throughout her career in the continuous improvement of our manufacturing operations, her leadership of Sterling Organics and the major improvements in quality, health, environment and safety," Mattis said.
 Melville began her career with Sterling Winthrop in 1971 as an Associate Production Chemist in Rensselaer, N.Y. She held a number of increasingly responsible positions and was promoted to plant manager in 1984.
 In 1985, Melville was named Director, Operations for the Sterling Organics bulk chemical manufacturing business. She was promoted to the position of Vice President of Sterling Organics in 1987, and then named President in 1989. In 1991, Melville assumed additional responsibilities for environment issues and became Vice President, Manufacturing Services. Melville was appointed to the Sterling Winthrop Corporate Strategy Committee (CSC) in October of 1992.
 Melville was a recipient of the Woman of Achievement Honor for Rensselaer County, N.Y., in 1992, in recognition of her efforts to enhance economic growth and business development in the region.
 Melville earned a B.A. degree in chemistry in 1978 from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. Prior to joining Sterling Winthrop, Melville held positions in quality control with Ferroxcube Corp. and Warner-Lambert Pharmaceuticals.
