STERLING CHEMICALS ELECTS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS HOUSTON, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Shareholders of Sterling
Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: STX) today re-elected its board of directors, the company announced. The six elected to the board are: Gordon A. Cain, chairman of the board of The Sterling Group, Inc. and chairman of Sterling Chemicals, Inc.; J. Virgil Waggoner, president and chief executive officer of Sterling Chemicals, Inc.; James W. Glanville, general partner of Lazard Freres & Co.; James J. Kerley, retired vice chairman, Emerson Electric Co.; William A. McMinn, chairman, Arcadian Corporation; and Gilbert M.A. Portal, secretary general, European Petroleum Industry Association.
In other business, shareholders ratified the appointment of Coopers & Lybrand as independent auditors for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 1992. Following the shareholders meeting, directors re-elected the officers of Sterling: J. Virgil Waggoner, president and chief executive officer; Robert W. Roten, vice president-corporate development; Douglas W. Metten, vice president-finance and chief financial officer; J. David Heaney, vice president-administration and secretary; Richard K. Crump, vice president-commercial; and Robert N. Bannon, vice president-operations. Sterling Chemicals is a major producer of seven intermediate petrochemical products-styrene monomer, acrylonitrile, acetic acid, plasticizers, lactic acid, tretiary butylamine and sodium cyanide.
