STEPHEN FRY IN AMERICA; BBC One Wales, tomorrow, 9pm THE WEEK AHEAD.
WHETHER we admit it or not, the British public can't get enough of Stephen Fry.
Even if he ran amok on the streets of his Norfolk hometown, wielding a large axe and wearing his underpants on his head, chances are we'd forgive him and put such bizarre behaviour down to being all part of his charm.
The phrase "national treasure" could well have been invented just for him, and he inhabits a unique place in our hearts as a kind of favourite uncle, someone we can rely on to help raise a smile in times of crisis and request information from if we're stumped for an answer. In fact, he'd be everybody's first choice when picking the dream quiz team, with Bamber Gascoigne trailing way behind.
So, no doubt lovely Stephen's latest documentary series will be just as well received as its predecessors.
This time, he's following in the footsteps of TV's other Mr Nice, Michael Palin, by going on an epic journey, this time to all the states in the, er, United States.
Not only that, he'll be driving himself around in a black cab. He begins his journey in the very far north of Maine, before journeying south via New York and Washington DC.
