STEPAN PROMOTES MIRGHANBARI

 NORTHFIELD, Ill., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Stepan Company (AMEX: SCL) announced the promotion of Micky M. Mirghanbari, 53, to the position of corporate vice president - manufacturing and engineering, replacing Henry Mork who is retiring Dec. 31, 1992.
 Mr. Mirghanbari joined Stepan in 1969, and was plant manager at the company's Millsdale plant for many years. He joined the corporate staff as vice president, plant operations, a year ago.
 Mr. Mirghanbari is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Chemical Engineering; he is also of Harvard's B.S. - PMD 63 program.
 Stepan Company, headquartered in Northfield, is a leading producer of basic and intermediate chemicals used in household, industrial, personal care, agriculture and energy-related products. The stock is traded on the American and Midwest Stock Exchanges under the symbol SCL and SCLPR.
