AS COMMITMENT BY LUKENS TO MAINTAIN INDUSTRY PRESENCE
PITTSBURGH, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The United Steelworkers of America (USW) said today the purchase of Washington Steel by Lukens Inc. (NYSE: LUC) resolves its concern that Lukens was thinking about abandoning the steel industry for other ventures.
The USW represents workers at both companies.
Andrew V. Palm, director of USW District 15, and John Reck, director of USW District 7, said in a joint statement, "USW members at both companies have strived to insure the competitiveness and profitability of their current companies, and will do the same for the new enterprise."
Washington Steel is located in Washington, Pa., within the jurisdiction of USW District 15. Lukens, of Coatesville, Pa., is in USW District 7.
