STEELWORKERS TO HOLD BRIEFING FOR ARMCO STEEL SHAREHOLDERS

DULUTH, Minn., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Dave Foster, United Steelworkers of America (USWA) District 33 director, announced today that the USWA will hold a briefing for Armco shareholders to inform them of the importance of their voting for a resolution for an Oversight Committee for the restructuring of Armco Steel, LP.
As previously announced, the resolution, submitted by Foster, has been sent to both Armco shareholders and Robert Purdum, CEO of Armco Inc. (NYSE: AS), part owner of Armco LP.
The briefing will be held on Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m. at the Parsipanny Hilton Hotel, Parsipanny, N.J.
Takuo Ishizuka, executive board member of Tekko Roren (Japanese Federation of Steel Workers), will also attend the briefing. Tekko Roren represents workers at Kawasaki, which is a partner with Armco LP. The union said that the USWA has attempted to establish a problem-solving approach to Armco's restructuring but has been unsuccessful in attempts to communicate with either Armco or Kawasaki. The union hopes Tekko Roren will be able to assist in this effort. Ishizuka is in the United States to study current practices in labor management relations.
As previously announced, members of the USWA and AEIF (Armco Employees Independent Federation) employed by Armco will leaflet the shareholders meeting on Friday, April 23, for support on the resolution. The shareholders' meeting, also at the Parsipanny Hilton, begins at 10 a.m.
