STEELWORKERS PRESIDENTS MEET TO DISCUSS LTV PETITION
The presidents of 18 Locals of the United Steelworkers of America (USW), representing union members employed by LTV Steel (NYSE: QLTV), are meeting today at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel and Towers to discuss the work stoppage strategy in the event that the Bankruptcy Court in New York City approves the company's petition to terminate its labor and pension agreements with the union.
George Becker, vice president/administration of the USW, is in charge of union work stoppage activity. Becker, who led the union's campaign in the recently-concluded Steelworker victory at Ravenswood Aluminum in West Virginia and the 1986-87 lockout at USX Corp.'s steel plants, will hold a press briefing following today's meeting. The briefing will begin at about 2 p.m. in the Chartiers Room at the Hilton on the mezzanine level.
The results of strike votes conducted during the past week will be announced by Becker at the press briefing.
