STEELWORKERS PRESIDENT TO HOLD NEWS CONFERENCE SUNDAY
 IN ADVANCE OF CONVENTION
Lynn Williams, International president of the United Steelworkers of America (USWA), will hold a news conference in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, to discuss activities planned for the union's 26th Constitutional Convention, which runs from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.
The news conference will take place in the media workroom, just outside the convention hall.
The convention begins at 10 a.m. Monday. That day's highlights include Williams' keynote address, a performace of the third act of the play "Steel/City," and a Solidarity Parade by Steelworkers involved in difficult contract negotiations over the past two years. The parade will include more than 100 members of USWA Local 5668 from Ravenswood, W.Va., who two months ago returned to their jobs after being locked out for nearly 20 months by the former management of the Ravenswood Aluminum Corp., the union said.
The "Steel/City" performance will begin about 10:20 a.m. Williams' keynote address will begin at at approximately 11 a.m. The Solidarity Parade will begin about 2:30 p.m., following an address by Lane Kirkland, president of the AFL-CIO.
Reporters covering the convention are reminded to register and pick up credentials. Registration begins at noon Saturday and will continue until 8 p.m. Saturday in Room N-11, the USWA Communications Department headquarters at the convention center.
A media section has been set aside near the podium in the convention hall. There are special daily passes for access to the convention floor for accredited still photographers and videographers. No other media representatives will be permitted on the convention floor itself.
